Dr. LaFayette was given the 2012 National Civil Rights Museum's National Freedom Award, the 2016 "I Am A Man" award in Memphis, Tennessee, and the 2016 Mahatma Gandhi international Award for Reconciliation and Peace, presented in Durban, South Africa, by Ela Gandhi, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi.
